• each colour in the Cornish National tartan has a special meaning: the single white overcheck on black creating the cross of St. Piran's banner (the flag of Cornwall), the black and gold are the colours of the ancient Cornish kings, the red is for the beak and legs of the Chough (the Cornish national bird) and the light blue is for the sea, which surrounds Cornwall on three sides

• PLEASE NOTE - of over 7,000 registered tartans only a handful are produced in ribbon and not all of these are produced in every width - we stock every width of every tartan ribbon produced
• reel length approx 25m / 27½yds / 82 feet
• although rare, a reel can be made up of two or more lengths of ribbon

Ribbon is often bought purely on suitability of colour / shade, so we must respectfully point out the following to assist you in deciding which ribbon to order from Cake Stuff . . .

• we use special software to ensure the shades shown on our site are as close as possible to the actual item, but we have no control over the way your monitor / tablet / phone displays these colours so please remember the shades shown are representations only
• we do not sell ribbon "by the metre" although some tartan ribbons are available in 5m top-up packs
• manufacturers advise that shades can vary slightly between batches although, in our experience, this is rare
• there is no standardised colour coding or naming system beyond traditional recognition of clan / tartan names - tartan ribbon from one manufacturer may look slightly different from another manufacturer due to differing dyes and manufacturing techniques
• in addition, even with the establishing of The Scottish Register of Tartans, differences in opinion still remain between weavers and other tartan sources so please check the image of the tartan ribbon you are ordering as this is the variant we will supply, regardless of the name
• Cake Stuff sell ribbon specifically for use on cakes, cupcakes and sugarcraft items_import - it is therefore classed as a Food Contact Item. Food safety is therefore top priority so we cannot accept the return of any opened ribbon under any circumstances
• you have the right to inspect the ribbon on receipt so you can check the shade(s) without opening the reel.  Retail customers have the right to return ribbon ordered from us under the Distance Selling Regulations, but please remember the ribbon must be UNOPENED and you are responsible for return postage and safe delivery to us before any refund can be processed
