• A COUPLE OF TIPS FROM SILVIA: (1) make sure your cake is sitting straight and even, and that the stencil is in full contact with your cake without any spaces, and (2) use royal icing or buttercream to fill the open spaces, scraping it down to leave it the same thickness as the stencil
• use a flexible scraper to spread the icing or buttercream
• if you don't fancy the royal icing method you can also use by simply applying colouring direct to the stencil - ideal for dust & powder colours, metallic colourings & edible paints, royal icing, edible lustre colourings and airbrushing
• for smaller areas apply using a good quality sugarcraft dusting brush
• for larger areas designs are probably best applied by airbrush
• if using gold leaf or silver leaf, apply using the special fan dusting brush
• for even more detail, try icing colouring pens
• made from 10 mil food grade opaque plastic
• a 'mil' is approx 1/1000th inch (not an abbreviation for millimetre), so 10 mil thickness is just over 0.25mm
• wipe clean - don't put in the dishwasher as the heat will warp the plastic
• these gorgeous Silvia Favero stencils are not cheap - they retail for $19 (US) on Silvia's website, so by the time we've paid the shipping from Argentina, import duty and VAT, we reckon our prices are still extremely competitive
• PLEASE NOTE stencils are gently rolled for easy of shipping (otherwise they'd be simply too large for standard post and Air Mail) - this does not affect the stencils in any way
• although extremely well made, the nature of laser-cutting means there may be the odd little piece of design that hasn't been removed completely, so we advise inspecting the stencil prior to use and using a sugarcraft trim knife to do tidy if necessary
