sugarpaste / icingREGALICE RE-BRAND Renshaw Regalice has been the top selling sugarpaste for many years - in fact Regalice is over 100 years old - so we reckon just about every customer will be familiar with the product. Renshaw are now part of a larger group of food companies have decided to re-brand Regalice.
Personally, we think this is a bit of a mistake as Regalice is such a well known and well-loved name within the cake decorating world. Simply calling it "Ready To Roll" could confuse a premium sugarpaste with cheap, sticky supermarket roll-out icings. The image on the left is of Renshaw Ready-to-Roll available in supermarkets, from Lakeland etc. The image on the right is the new "Professional Ready-to-Roll". Nevertheless, the decision has been taken so if you receive stocks of the new-style packs and can't find the word "Regalice" anywhere, please be assured this still is Regalice as we all know it. We'll continue to refer to it as "Regalice" as this is really what everyone knows it as. Please also note Renshaw will also be producing all colours in 250g packs during the first half of 2013, so 500g packs will slowly disappear to be replaced by 250g packs. . Sugarpaste icing is often called ready-to-roll icing or roll-out icing and is gives fantastic results which even first-time cake decorators will be able to achieve with ease. It is also often referred to by brand names such as Regalice or Covapaste and sometimes (incorrectly) as fondant. Cake-stuff.com recommends Professional Regalice made by Renshaw - holders of the royal warrant. Professional Regalice is a high quality sugarpaste which has excellent handling and covering properties, is not too sticky and less prone to crack than supermarket brands. Please note Professional Regalice is not the same product as cheaper SuperCook Regalice sold in supermarkets. Professional Regalice is available in white and ivory in 500g, 1kg, 2½kg and 5kg packs, and in a full range of colours in 250g packs.
We now also stock Satinice - the sugarpaste everyone is talking about thanks to the huge popularity of American TV cake shows. Available in 2.5kg and 10kg plastic pails, Satinice does not smell as sweet as British sugarpastes but has exceptional covering properties due to the inclusion of gums in the recipe. Available in white (vanilla) and chocolate. "OK - so which brand am I best using?" . . . the question we're asked all the time. The simple answer is there isn't a simple answer(!). Everyone has a slightly different way of working and, as with most things in life, has their favourite. Based on sales and customer feedback we're happy to offer the following summary . . . Premium Sugarpaste (Renshaw Covering Paste) - ideal for novelty and general celebration cakes. Excellent value and made by Renshaw. Has a subtle vanilla flavour and good handling qualities, although a few customers have commented they prefer the firmer texture of Regalice. Works perfectly well for wedding cakes too but if you're not familiar with the product, we'd advise getting to know it first (try our SAMPLE PACK) as it does handle slightly softer than Regalice so you need to get used to this to avoid cracks. This is our best seller and we currently are selling more than a metric tonne per week . . . so it's obviously doing the job! Covapaste - an absolutely delicious premium sugarpaste with, arguably, the best eating qualities of all three brands. Lovely vanilla flavour and scent with excellent covering properties. We're finding more and more of our trade customers are switching from Regalice to Covapaste, so it's perfect for wedding cakes too. Feedback from customers is that it has better handling qualities than Regalice and is less likely to tear or crack. Regalice - the old favourite and still excellent quality, although much firmer so requires a little work to improve the elasticity before rolling out. Traditionally contains vinegar as a thickener and stabiliser, and loose packed inside its box. Some customers have been using Regalice for 50+ years and simply wouldn't dream of changing as they know the product so well. We have to say, though, that with prices climbing steadily, many customers have switched to Covapaste and not been disappointed. Satinice - cake decorating TV shows are now hugely popular in the UK and this is the brand all the American big names use. It doesn't have as sweet an aroma as British sugarpastes and some customers describe the handling properties as being similar to plasticine . . . not a bad thing, we stress, but this highlights the exceptional covering properties of Satinice due to the inclusion of gums in the recipe. This is essential for the hotter states in the USA where the paste must hold itself in pretty extreme temperatures. More expensive that UK brands mainly because of high shipping costs from the USA, but well worth a try and with a growing army of loyal fans. Beau Products - a new name which is attracting a huge amount of interest. What we love is the way they've taken something as "basic" (to cake decorators) as sugarpaste and added their own unique twist . . . vibrant colours and flavours. Flavoured sugarpaste isn't actually a new idea (a Scottish manufacturer tried to launch flavours 20 years ago) but the market just wasn't ready for them and the idea never really caught on. However, Beau Products have really come up trumps with their new range . . . you can buy the sugarpaste already flavoured, or buy the flavourings on their own to add to your own preferred brand of sugarpaste. Mixing colours and flavours means the possibilities are endless!!! Please have a good browse - we'll be adding more colours and flavours over the coming months but, meantime, please try them and let us know your opinion. We now offer a SAMPLE PACK containing 5 small packs of the top 4 sugarpastes (plus marzipan), so that you can try / feel / taste before ordering larger packs. Please click here to see the SAMPLE PACK.
Colours shown on this site are limited by photography and shades will vary on different PC monitors. As you browse colours and pack sizes, please be sure you are purchasing the correct product as we cannot accept the return of sugarpaste for food safety reasons. This does not affect your statutory rights. Please click here for more details of our Food Safety Policy. How much sugarpaste will you need to cover your cake? Over the coming months you'll begin to see Regalice packs saying "Ready To Roll Icing", and/or "Decor-ice".

For busier cake makers and business customers, cake-stuff.com also recommends our Premium Sugarpaste (Renshaw Covering Paste) and Covapaste. Both these professional sugarpastes are available in white and ivory in 2.5kg and 5kg trade packs, offering great quality, a lovely vanilla flavour and fantastic value for money. Please click below to see the white / ivory and coloured ranges.
We no longer stock M&B sugarpaste, after listening to what customers are saying. M&B sugarpaste is much softer than Regalice and opinion from customers has always been a bit mixed. As always happens when offering more than one brand, some customers swear by Regalice, others prefer M&B, but over the past year a growing number of customers have reported finding M&B just too soft (and even sticky) to give a proper finish. If you like M&B then please accept our apologies . . . it's just not viable to carry a second range of colours without constantly finding Best Before dates getting too close to sell at normal price. Renshaw's launch of new Regalice colours has more-or-less sealed the fate of M&B.
