Gum Tragacanth is a fine edible powder form of a natural gum. Used for centuries to thicken ointments etc. Gum Tragacanth is added to sugarpaste to create a tough modelling paste which can be rolled very thin and sets hard, ideal for sugar flowers etc.
BBE 12-18 months at least, often even longer.
