Sugar Flower Paste / Mexican Modelling Paste are simply sugarpastes blended with natural gums, which allow the paste to be rolled very thinly.
Flower Paste dries in contact with air to a hard porcelain-like finish. Cake-stuff.com recommends Sugar Florist Paste (SFP), made by Squire's Kitchen. Flower Paste is, technically speaking, an edible product but let's be honest, anyone who would attempt eating rock-hard sugar flowers would have to be a bit mad to begin with. The BBE date is therefore for guidance only.
We stock mainly white and cream SFP, although we are happy to add colours as customers request them. This is mainly because ready-coloured SFP is expensive . . . a 100g pack of coloured SFP is the same price as a 200g pack of white SFP! However, we appreciate you may not fancy the idea of trying to colour a whole block by hand, so we stock some colours too.
We also stock Mexican Modelling Paste in white, cream (celebration), teddy bear brown and the very popular flesh. MMP is an ultra fine modelling paste for delicate and intricate sugar modelling.
White SFP / MMP can be coloured using Sugarflair icing paste colourings to offer the widest possible range of ready-coloured SFP and MMP. Detail colour can also be added using Sugarflair Blossom Tints, Edible Lustres and Craft Dusting Powders . . .all of which we stock.
Best before date will normally be at least 6-9 months from date of purchase and often much, much longer.
Easy to use . . . if stored somewhere cool, allow to warm to room temperature, then simply knead the paste / work with fingers to improve elasticity, roll to desired thickness with non-stick mini rolling pin using icing sugar to dust your board / working surface and rolling pin . . . remember never to use flour to dust as this can ferment. SFP / MMP dries when exposed to air, so always wrap unused SFP / MMP in clingfilm.
