Cake Boards is one of the largest categories of product we sell and something that every cake maker uses on a daily basis, so we've worked extremely hard to be able to offer the very best prices . . . full packs are ioffered at proper "trade" prices.
You may already know exactly what you're looking for but if this your first visit to cake-stuff.com, it may be worth spending a moment or two reading through the information below. Cake boards can be slightly confusing as we've discovered the various types of boards are referred to by different names in different parts of the country (and in other countries), so please check through the descriptions below to make sure you know which type of cake board you require.
Cake-stuff.com cake boards are available to buy singly, in full packs (pack sizes vary depending on type of board) at an even lower "trade" price and sometimes with matching cake boxes included.
Cake-stuff.com source all our cake boards from the UK's top two manufacturers... we do not import cheap cake boards. All our cake boards are manufactured to British Standards in fully licensed, hygienic UK factories. What's more, all our cake boards are sprayed with a microscopic film of invisible, odourless and totally flavourless antiseptic wax which prevents any bacterial growth. This, combined with our own hygienic storage and handling, allows us to sell single cake boards safely . . . simply wipe lightly before use.
Cake boards are split into 5 main groups:
Cut edge cake cards are 1-1.5mm thick lightweight cards designed for light sponges, gateaux etc. Cut edge cards are so-called because they are cut from larger sheets of food-approved cake card, so the edges and underside are unfinished. They are very inexpensive so normally only available in full packs of round or square cards. If you've never used these before please note they are quite flimsy and not recommended for anything other than simple sponge or cream cakes. Popular with schools.
Single thick cake cards are normally around 2mm thick lightweight cards designed for sponge cakes and have properly wrapped edges and white paper underside for a finished look. Inexpensive and normally only made in round or square, they are good quality and able to hold smaller decorated cakes safely. We recommend that if you need 11"-12" or above, you consider the stronger double thick cards or even cake drums as single thick cards will bend under weight, which can cause the icing to crack.
Double thick cake cards are (as the name suggests) more-or-less double the thickness of single thick cards, normally 3-4mm thick designed for heavier sponge and novelty cakes. Normally made in round, square and oblong shapes, they have proper wrapped edges and white paper underside. We recommend that before buying, you quickly check the price of the size you need against that of a cake drum as often there is very little price difference and the drum is that little bit stronger again.
Hardboard cake cards are normally produced in various oblong sizes as an alternative to double thick cards, and occasionally these products may be substituted for each other (one manufacturer produces hardboard, the other produces double thick). Hardboard cake cards offer better strength in larger sizes for novelty cakes. They have proper wrapped edges and white paper underside. The larger oblong sizes are perfect for Wilton novelty cake tins, number cakes etc.
Cake drums are normally around 5/8" thick and are made from compressed, sterilised sawdust (surprised?) with proper wrapped edges and white paper underside, designed primarily for heavier cakes, such as rich fruit cakes, offering the strongest and safest type of board. Cake drums are made in round square, heart, hexagon, oval, petal and a number of other shapes to order. Very strong and very safe, minimising any movement of the icing and perfect for wedding cakes.
PLEASE NOTE . . . all cake boards are traditionally hand finished so please allow a certain amount of variation in accurate size and finish. Please also note that the special food-approved paper covering may be in either "fern" (see cake drums) or "maple" (see hardboard cards) finish. Small folds, creases, scratches and dents in the covering paper and a natural "bend" on thinner cards are all features occasionally found in the hand-finished product and are not considered faults. Please also note actual thickness of cards may prove slightly less due to boards compacting in storage (stored several hundred deep).
To make it easier to find what you're looking for, boards are displayed in different categories depending on thickness / type, and then in size order within each category . . . please remember that this range runs to several pages, so don't forget to keep browsing!
As you browse through the cake boards, please be sure you are purchasing the correct product as we cannot accept the return of cake boards (even if unopened packs) for food safety reasons. This does not affect your statutory rights. Please click here for more details of our Food Safety Policy.
